Penthouse apartment City of London
THE PROJECT
Built in the 1920’s Cliffords Inn is a purpose build block in the City of London, close to Fleet Street, The Royal Courts of Justice and the Inns of Court. Totaling 90 sq m of space, the project involved the refurbishment of a top floor apartment and development of a rooftop tank room, to create a luxury duplex residence with roof terrace views across London, ready for sale within a five month timeframe.
THE BRIEF
Our
task was to break through the top floor structure to the redundant,
rooftop tank room, cap off a disused lift shaft and fully refurbish the
combined spaces. Bathroom, two double bedrooms and en suite shower room
were to be located within the existing accommodation. A spiral stair
link to the upper level was to lead to an open plan living space. A
kitchen needed to be created within the refurbished tank room while
access to a roof terrace - with views across London - was to be
included in the project. The fit out needed to be to a high standard
while meeting strict budget constraints.
THE SOLUTION
The
existing spaces have been stripped out and partitions built to create
access for the spiral stair, which passes through a new structural
opening. On the upper level the tank room has been dry lined and a bay
arrangement created to access the roof terrace. Throughout the
apartment walls have been decorated in off white. An oak floor has been
installed in the open plan living space while on the lower level a
cream coloured, wool carpet has been fitted.
